About Our Tree of Life

The Tree of Life is displayed on the wall in the West Entrance to Meadows
Mennonite Home. The Tree of Life was made possible by donations from
estate gifts of two donors, Leota Clausen and Elizabeth Sohn.  It is a
beautifully hand carved original sculpture designed by renowned artist
Sanford Werfel of New Jersey.

The sculpture incorporates a rendering of Jesus shepherding five sheep at
the base of the tree and has been made especially for Meadows Mennonite
Retirement Community.

The purpose of the Tree of Life is to provide recognition for families,
individuals, churches, organizations, and corporations for their generous
gifts to Meadows. Originally the tree contained 300 leaves made of brushed
satin finish engraver’s metal and 19 sculptured stones made of walnut wood
combined with a brass plate for donor inscription.  In 2010 those leaves were
nearly filled and an expansion of the tree included 300 additional leaves.The
base of the tree is surrounded by the sculptured stones.  Cut out brass doves
will adorn the branches of the tree.  Each leaf, dove and stone will be engraved
with donor’s name or a memorial inscription, recognizing the various levels of
giving.

The gift recognition ranges are as follows, below photo:

Bronze leaf
Silver leaf
Gold leaf
Brass dove
Contributor stones

$     500.00 - $1,499.00
$  1,500.00 - $2,999.00
$  3,000.00 - $4,999.00
$  5,000.00 - $9,999.00
$10,000.00 and above

The beginning level of recognition on the Meadows Tree of Life is $500.00, with increasing levels to $10,000.00
and above.  The gift category you select will be engraved as shown above.   Recognition at the different levels
can be a one – time donation or the result of cumulative giving throughout a calendar year.

Each leaf on the tree is of life-giving importance.  Just as a leaf changes water, air and sunlight into food and life
for the tree, your monetary gift, represented by the metal leaves, doves and contribution stones on this tree, will
be transformed into programs, which will result in a higher quality of life for those that we are entrusted to care for.

“It is better to give than to receive.”

Every day the men and women serving at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community commit themselves to
giving to our community by providing the best customer service and resident care possible.  You can help us
continue to offer these services and high quality care by making a donation at one of the levels shown.  Through
your donation, you can become a part of improving the lives of the people in our community.   Gifts to the tree of
life will help residents achieve a better life…and help us continue to provide the quality of care that our residents
expect and deserve.  We would like the opportunity to say thank you by engraving a leaf, dove or stone to honor
you or a loved one.

Leaves, doves, and stones can be obtained in a variety of ways including the complete listing
